Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between personality traits and creativity by academic motivation as an intervening variable among high school student in Shiraz. Participants consisted of 472 high school students (boys' 197and girls 275). Those are selected by multistage cluster sampling in Shiraz city. Three scales were used: Situational motivation scales (SIMS,2000), NEO-FFI or short personality inventory of Costa and Mc Crae (1992)and Abebi Creativity questionnaire(ACQ, 2002). The reliability of the measures verified by Chronbach alpha method and validity of those were confirmed through internal consistency. Data were analyzed via Pearson correlation coefficient and path analysis. The results of path analysis showed that consciousness and openness to experiences positively related to creativity and neuroticism can predict creativity negatively. Another results showed that personality trait can predict motivation especially intrinsic motivation and amotivation . in sum the results of path analysis indicated that motivation have a mediator role in the relationship The finding indicated that this model is a proper model to explain the mechanism of the effects of personality traits on creativity. This explanatory model is elaborated in the article.
