Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract

The aim of this research is a Qualitative study of the causes and contexts of second-year high school students' unwillingness to study philosophy in the unit of philosophy education. The research method is qualitative and grounded theory method. In this study, 25 philosophy and logic teachers from Tabriz city were selected by Purpose-based sampling method. Sampling continued until information saturation. Findings show that The lack of progress in students' skills and neglect of thinking are causal conditions and indirect categories of students. The categories of lack of contextualization of philosophy education, weakness in the educational quality of the philosophy learning unit, lack of feeling the need for education, and disregard for the specialized capacity of philosophy teachers are the underlying conditions. Analysis indicates that the categories of dominance of a materialistic attitude towards education, commodification of education, and monetization of education are intervening conditions. Participants identified the categories of desirability of educational structure and interactions, improving the educational environment, and paying attention to active methods in teaching philosophy as strategies. The categories of students' culture, the crystallization of wisdom and students' moral life from the participants' perspective are the consequences of motivating students' philosophical studies. The central category in this research is the concept of the systematic hegemony of the market system over education.
